From Windhoek to Omaha
Redpoint was contacted by the wife of a customer who was hospitalized in Namibia with some fractured vertebrae following an off-road vehicle accident.
The 66-year-old client was riding in the back of the truck through the African bush when a jolt sent him flying out of the vehicle and onto the dirt road. The tour company drove him to a hospital in Windhoek, where a neurosurgeon diagnosed him with a compression fracture in his lower spine. He was fitted with a brace and prescribed medications, and the local neurosurgeon recommended surgery to stabilize the fracture.
The patient elected to have the surgery done at home, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. When he was cleared to fly, Redpoint made arrangements to have him seen at the UNMC immediately upon arrival, and medically evacuated him to Eppley Field in Omaha.
At the Nebraska hospital, he had two rods and four screw placed to stabilize the fracture. He has since returned to his home for recuperation.
