Check to be sure your passport is valid for at least six months
An American woman in her 20s had an alarming experience at an airport in Panama when immigration agents from the Servicio Nacional de Migración (SNM) detained her for irregularities with her passport. She was traveling with a U.S. passport that was due to expire within three months, and the immigration officials would not allow her to enter the country.
The woman’s mother in California called Redpoint Operations to report her daughter’s problem. Redpoint security staff contacted the client at the airport and offered assistance via the U.S. Embassy in Panama as well as with Spanish translation with the SNM officials. Redpoint kept in touch with the mother throughout the process, and officials ultimately allowed the daughter to enter for her weeklong vacation.
It is strongly recommended that travelers renew their passports within six months of expiration.
The mother called Redpoint to thank the operations staff for their support.
“She will never go anywhere without you guys looking after her,” she said.
