A ‘pop’ and a burning sensation in the back of his leg, playing basketball in Spain

Redpoint medically evacuated one of the leaders of a tour group in Spain after he tore his Achilles tendon.

The 29-year-old was playing basketball near Barcelona last week when he felt a “pop” in the back of his left leg, followed by a sharp, burning sensation. He had to limp off the basketball court. An ambulance arrived to take him to a local hospital for evaluation, where X-rays revealed that he had torn his Achilles tendon. The client elected to have the procedure to repair the tendon done immediately at the Spanish hospital and he called Redpoint for further advice.

Redpoint physicians agreed this was a routine procedure that could be easily performed at the local hospital, and recommended that the client be evacuated to his home for rehabilitation immediately afterward. Redpoint transported the client by first-class, lay-flat seating commercial air so that he could fly with his leg comfortably elevated, and provided transportation and assistance to and from the airports.

He arrived home safely and has started his rehabilitation.
